Managing Partner of Tryon Enterprises, LLC
David Huckans is the managing partner of Tryon Enterprises who oversees the day-to-day operations at Harmony Village – a 74-suite, 4.5 acre complex that can accommodate up to 360 beds in Johnstown, NY. Huckans, a 1991 graduate of Ithaca College with a B.S. in finance, has over 30 years of experience in real estate in upstate New York that helped pave the way for his winning proposal to secure Harmony Village over five competing entities. Huckans’ partner in the Harmony Village project, Shri K. Verma, MD, Chief of Gastroenterology at Nathan Littauer Hospital in nearby Gloversville. The purchase of Harmony Village had to be approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
No stranger to those with financial and social challenges, Huckans’ early life experience was shaped by his annual visit to Belize, a small country in Central America. Huckans made the annual trek with his Fulton County-based Sacred Heart Church, now known as Church of Holy Spirit, between 1998-2003, with the mission focused on helping refurbish poor private schools in Belize City and making the lives better for people living in the region. Another priority for Huckans was the donation of labor, clothing and toys to an area that was essentially a melting pot comprised of different cultures and languages. One project that Huckans took great pride in was the construction of a Bishop Martin High School mural constructed on site by students who painted their favorite fish and bird. To this day, Huckans remains in close contact with Father Oliver Smalls of Orange Walk in Belize as well as key team members on the mission trips. While in Belize, Huckans became familiar with different diets of the various cultures as well as primary and secondary languages. In 2017, Huckans returned to Belize with his wife and four children, volunteering to teach classes at Bishop Martin High School, while celebrating as the godfather to the children of a Belizan resident who became “family” to him as, Huckans had mentored Smith years prior in Belize.
Huckans’ experience in Belize coincided with his 10-year involvement (1996-2006) with Fulton County Big Brothers, Big Sisters, including five years served as the organization’s president.
Aside from owning Harmony Village, Huckans is the owner of Lakeview Village at Paradise Point – a townhouse community on the shores of the Great Sacandaga Lake in Mayfield, NY. The waterfront community also has dock slips available for its residents.
Huckans is also the owner of Tryon Enterprises – a 30-dormitory complex on the site of the former Tryon School for Boys in Johnstown, NY. The dormitory is comprised of 10 efficiencies, 10 two-bedroom and 10 one-bedroom units. The complex is also on the grounds where former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was discovered by Bobby Stewart. In July 2023, Tyson and Stewart were both present and accepted the entry road sign named in their honor.
Additionally, Huckans, a dual agent, licensed as a NYS Real Estate Broker and NYS Mortgage Broker, has a network of over 40 one-to-four-unit multi-family homes in Fulton and Montgomery counties, and advises owners on property management issues.
